Jan Möllmer, born and raised in Wuppertal, joined Pina Bausch's Kontakthof dance theatre project for teenagers at the age of 16. Following his dance studies at the Folkwang University of the Arts in Essen, he embarked on a career with the Folkwang Tanzstudio.

Möllmer served as the choreographic assistant to Reinhild Hoffmann, a prominent choreographer at Theater Bonn, and has intermittently performed as a guest dancer with Tanztheater Wuppertal since 2013.

From 2020 to 2022, he operated as a freelance performer collaborating with theatre director Dimitris Papaioannou, participating in over 30 productions worldwide. He was honored with the Young Artist Award by the State of North Rhine-Westphalia and appointed as the Associated Artist of Tanz Station - Barmer Bahnhof in 2022.
